Toyota Hybrid Roller Coaster
Leading up to the rapid-prototyping weekend that we organized and carried out at Carnegie Mellon University, Toyota released a series of commercials about how Toyota technology is used in other industries. Deeplocal brought two of these commercials to life with real, working installations. One of the installations was a hybrid roller coaster that utilized Toyota's regenerative braking system to power amusement park lights. Our team took apart a real Toyota Prius, removing the engine, front brake system and axle, electrical wiring system, and all of the guts and transformed the car into a coaster cart without it knowing. The cart operated on a 70' coaster track that we designed and fabricated from steel.
