Justin Hopper

Artist in Residence

Juddy

Justin Hopper is a writer whose work covers a spectrum of cultural topics. As a professional arts journalist, he has written for international publications including Paste, Poetry Foundation, Spin and XLR8R. In Pittsburgh, his award-winning writing has appeared regularly in many major local and regional publications, and in his book on community projects enacted as part of Pittsburgh 250, Making the Connections.

Hopper's writing- and research-based artwork is concerned with the conversation around shifts in cultural knowledge: from oral tradition to written – and now digital – culture. Using documentation, text, and spoken word, Hopper explores what is lost and what is gained in these transitions, and how we subtly, often unknowingly, make decisions that alter the course of our own history – both future and past.
